The Perfect Confetti Moment: A Nottingham Wedding Photographer’s Guide

As a wedding photographer, I’ve captured countless magical moments between couples on their special day. Few traditions, however, create such consistently stunning photo opportunities as the confetti throw. Those colorful paper pieces float through the air while the newlywed beams with joy making it a moment to remember.

Why Confetti Photos Matter

Confetti photographs capture genuine emotion and celebration in a way few other wedding moments can. As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen firsthand how these joyful seconds produce some of the most natural smiles and authentic reactions of the entire day. I can’t tell you how much I love this part of any wedding.

The Two Confetti Options

Based on my experience photographing weddings throughout Nottinghamshire and beyond, there are two main approaches to the confetti moment:

1. The Confetti Line

This creates what I call ‘the ultimate confetti experience’ – perfect for couples who want that showstopping confetti moment. Here’s how it works:

– You’ll be announced as newlyweds and walk hand-in-hand down the aisle

– Your coordinator, venue manager, or wedding party will arrange guests into two lines (while you wait somewhere quiet with a glass of fizz to calm the emotions after the ceremony)

– You’ll walk together between these lines while guests shower you with confetti

– This setup creates a great photo opportunity with lots of facial expressions (real emotions)

The confetti line typically takes place in a designated area of your venue – your coordinator will be able to let you know what are the options and restrictions.

 2. Aisle Confetti

For couples seeking a simpler approach with a swift transition to celebrations:

– Confetti bags are placed on seats

– Guests throw confetti as you exit down the aisle after being pronounced married

– This works beautifully when your ceremony space offers an attractive backdrop and good light

This option is particularly good for unpredictable weather days, as it can happen immediately following an indoor ceremony.

Tips for Confetti Success (From a Photographer’s Perspective)

When photographing confetti moments, I always remind couples of:

  • Keep expressions natural and happy
  • Look at each other, at guests, anywhere but down on the floor (this isn’t easy btw)
  • Stop for kisses! These create spectacular photo opportunities (I’ll give you a cue)
  • Walk slowly. This gives me time to capture every beautiful moment and you can enjoy this for longer (it is so much fun)

Confetti Choices

Different confetti types create different photographic effects. Sometimes venues have specific requirements regarding what type of confetti you can use.

  • Paper confetti falls slowly and creates that classic “raining confetti” look in photographs (my fav!)
  • Flower petals add an eco-friendly wedding aesthetic
  • Foil confetti creates dramatic sparkle in photos but is best saved for indoor evening shots (usually during the first dance)

Weather Contingencies

The UK weather can be unpredictable, to say the least! It’s good to have a contingency plan.

  • Plan A: Outside after the ceremony (ideal lighting conditions, usually the best setup
  • Plan B: Alternative timing later in the day ( might feel a bit staged but it’s a plan B)
  • Plan C: Indoor options including a smaller confetti throw with the bridal party and a few other guests
